Balance Drives a Better Business World
March is Women's History Month, a time to recognize the contributions of women in history.
So what better way to reflect on women in history than by remembering women in tech?
There's Ada Lovelace, born in 1815, who’s widely considered the first computer programmer.
There's U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Grace Hopper, known as the mother of computing, who developed the first computer compiler and helped develop the COBOL computer language from 1959 to 1961.
There’s Radia Perlman, who created the algorithm behind the Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) in the 1980s, which made the internet possible, meaning she is, in a sense, one of the parents of the internet.
And then there are the women of Yapstone, who have helped build and grow our company. Without the contributions of the women of Yapstone, our company wouldn't be where it is today.
At Yapstone, we believe that balance drives a better business world.
That means having both women and men in leadership positions, having both women and men in engineering positions, and encouraging both women and men to develop and grow their career at Yapstone.
For International Women's Day on March 8, we took a video camera and asked our Yapsters—both women and men alike—to chime in on the important women in their lives.
"What words of inspiration would you share with women to help them in their career?" we asked our women.
"What woman has inspired you as a leader?" we asked our men.

Speaking of women in tech, this month we found out that our chief people officer was named as one of PaymentsSource's Most Influential Women in Payments.
Deb Tenenbaum was recognized alongside executives from companies including PayPal, First Data, Visa, MasterCard and American Express.
In her PaymentsSource writeup, Deb said women are an important asset to any business because they approach problem-solving differently than men.
“Companies need to be more inclusive in order to get a fully rounded workforce," Deb was quoted as saying. "It’s important for an organization to review its recruiting practices to make sure there are no inherent biases that will discourage or impede certain groups from joining a company."
